Buying Tips For Your Next Bed

Shopping for a bed can certainly be a challenge. Any bed outlet will spoil you for choice with an array of mattresses, types of bed and price ranges. By thinking in advance, talking it through with a partner if appropriate will ensure you have a better idea of your requirements making it easier to find the bed that will suit your circumstances.

There are many bed types to choose from, you could have a metal, wooden or divan style bed. When you are thinking about what might be best for you start with your current bed. What do you like about your existing bed is it nice and firm or is it too soft? Do you like the style or does it possible take up to much room. If you share with a partner is your bed big enough for the two of you, if not consider a larger bed and type of mattress, a traditional style spring mattress can disturb another partner where as there is less movement with a foam mattress.

Like me you may have though the single, double and king sized beds were all the same size however they aren't standardised even though they use the size of name to describe the product. This is especially important if you are buying the bed and mattress from separate suppliers. The height of a bed is important as well, do measure the beds you go to see, a bed that is too high may look out of place with your existing furniture and you may feel strange lying in bed higher than other furniture.

If you have narrowed your choices down to a couple of equally good products think about the after sales service. When can they delivery and if they assemble, as well as the guarantees or warrantees that are provided.

Understandably price factors into your buying decisions however it is best to look at the value rather than price. The cheapest may save you some money initially however is less likely to last as long and offer the comfort and support you want. We spend around 3,000 hours in bed each year so it is worth saving to spend a little more for a great night sleep and be refreshed for the day ahead.

Shoe Storage Ideas - Thinking Outside the Shoe Box

What products are available and being creative... "thinking outside the shoe box" if you will.

How much space do you have?

You need to have good measurements for your closet or entryway. Closet products are generally sized in 12 inch intervals as a closets are usually 24 inches deep but your entrance way can be large enough for a storage bench or small enough that it won't even accommodate shoe storage so get good measurements.

How many shoes need to be stored?

Which shoes do you wear most often and which ones are simply stored away? We usually only wear about 20% of what we own so some of your footwear will be worn often and those are the items that you need to keep readily accessible. Everything else can be stored away.

Products for shoe storage

Boxes- boxes are suitable for storing shoes that are not to be accessed frequently. Look for clear plastic boxes so you can easily identify what is in there. Make sure if you are using boxes for shoe storage that are all of the same variety and that they are made to stack together.

Shoe racks - shoe racks can be plastic coated metal, laminate, and melamine covered particle board and even real cedar. Look for shoe racks with stackable components so you can use the vertical space in your closet. Try raising the closet rod to 72 inches and then putting the shoe rack on the floor. This arrangement provides space for shoe storage and still allows enough vertical space above your shoes for hanging garments. You will need about 8-9 inches per pair of shoes so a 24 inch lineal space on a shoe rack could accommodate 3 pairs of shoes stored side by side. Generally shoe racks made for storing shoes in this way are manufactured in 24 inch widths.

Underbed shoe storage - some products are now made to fit underneath the bed to provide use of space that is otherwise wasted. Underbed units are made of either soft plastic or rigid plastic boxes with hinged lids. This is another shoe storage idea for those shoes that are not accessed often. If you need extra space under the bed to accommodate a storage unit then raise the bed a few inches. There are specific products available called "bed risers" that can be used to get the bed a few inches higher in order to make the horizontal surface under the bed more usable for storage. You can even go to the big box store and purchase bed casters that are adjustable to different heights and they might provide the few extra inches you need.

Think "outside the shoe box"

It is not always necessary to use a product designed for shoe storage if you want to store shoes. Other types of furniture can sometimes do just as well. I have seen metal lockers, book cases, storage baskets, and even laundry baskets used to corral those loose shoes.

Here are three ideas for shoe storage that essentially make good use of products that were designed for something else.

1. Do you have a big decorative clay pot? Instead of planting a plant in there and dealing with all the dirt and constant watering use it to store shoes right by the entry way.

2. A vertical CD holder doesn't have to be for CD's, some of them are great for storing your footwear.

3. One of the most creative shoe storage ideas I have seen is the use of an entertainment unit placed at the end of a king size bed. It is often hard to find a bench that will span the entire width of a king size bed but this unit fit perfectly and the owners used the "cubbies" for shoe storage. If also provided a perfect place to sit while donning shoes.

So if you want new and original shoe storage ideas for all of those shoes you have on the floor and not on your feet, just get creative and think outside the shoe box.

Important Things To Note About Bedroom Furniture

When you talk about the bedroom furniture you will discover that the bed and the mattress must be mentioned. They make up the scantiest of the things that you can ever think of having. In other words they are the most basic things a bedroom must contain.

Can one be said to have excellent bedroom furniture without the right bed sheets? I doubt it. Many people say they just can't sleep on the bed without the bed sheets. It is suppose to make you sleep comfortably. It is also expected to serve aesthetics purpose. The type of bed sheets that you have on your bed will make a lot of difference on how your bedroom looks.

Depending on the size of the room and of what nature of room one is trying to do, one can achieve a sizzling look by having mirror on the wardrobe doors. By doing this you have conserved space. But the truth is that if well done with the right furniture, you have not just conserved space you have created beauty.

When you are trying to beautify your bedroom with the right furniture, always pick colors that will be mood enhancing and that will always whisper things like 'take it easy' or relax'. Your colors must never be loud.

Neutral colors offer flexibility for bedroom decoration. Neutral goes with everything. It is possible to give your room a new update look as you play with neutral colors. It is possible to make subtle changes on your furnishings regularly.

Do you have storage chests in your bedroom. Many people don't include storage chests in their bedroom furnishing, but they are very important. They are usually put at the end of the bedroom bed and can store comforters, blankets and other seasonal clothings. It's not unusual to find cedar chests because of the cedar wood's ability to naturally drive away insects and resist decay or dampness.

Despite the lots of comfort that come with shopping online for bedroom furniture, many people still prefer physically seeing and "feeling" the furniture before buying. They therefore continue to buy from offline stores. To them, there's nothing like actually seeing and "feeling" what they are buying - this they say is missing when they shop online.

If you run out of bedroom decorating ideas, find time to visit some of your friends, especially those that you know have a high sense of taste and love quality decorations. Just looking at their decorations can spark off lots of ideas in you for decorating your bedroom.

Bed Bug Mattress Cover - Do They Work in Preventing Bed Bugs?

Recent reports suggests that the problem of bed bugs has steadily been increasing each year and it's not surprising either as world travel continues to be on the rise. While many associate this problem with cheap hotels or shady inns, five star hotels and expensive homes can also become infested. If you expect to do a lot of traveling, then making use of a bed bug mattress cover can help keep these insects at bay.

The way it works is that the cover essentially encases the entire mattress so as not to allow any of these critters from going in or out. These tiny insects almost always attack late at night so if they are nesting in the mattress you are about to sleep in, do not be surprised to see bites on your body when you wake up. Being prepared will help to prevent this from occurring.

When searching for a bed bug mattress cover, be sure the one you choose will fit on the bed you intend to put it on. In addition, the zippers should also function properly in deterring insects from getting out. You may also want to consider a cover that is of tightly woven fabric instead of plastic just for added comfort. Eventually, any bugs trapped in will die due to lack of oxygen and food.

While these covers are extremely effective when you travel or stay over at a friend's place, if there is an infestation problem in your house then you may need to take a more aggressive approach. The purpose of these covers is not necessarily to prevent an infestation problem but to protect you when traveling.

Buying a New Bed

Only you or your partner can decide which mattress is suitable for you; go to a mattress specialist and test all the different kinds they have on offer. There are three main types of sprung mattress: open sprung (the cheapest), which come in a choice of tensions; continuous, more responsive than open-sprung; and pocket, the most expensive, but most comfortable. Above the springs will be a top filling, which might be made of anything from cotton to mohair - and the more filling you have, the more luxurious the overall feel of the mattress.

When purchasing a mattress many people forget about the divan or bed frame on which the mattress lies; if this is damaged or sagging then it will alter the comfort level of your new mattress; if you decide to purchase a divan it is worth knowing that there are various on the market.

A sprung-edged divan have a complete open coil spring unit mounted on a frame providing support to the entire mattress; this will be beneficial to those sleepers who toss and turn as it will act as a shock absorber; a solid divan has a rigid top panel often constructed out of hardboard; this will make your mattress much firmer; a firm edged divan has a smaller number of heavy duty springs within a rigid, wooden sided frame; and a flexible slatted divan has soft wood slats mounted in a frame creating a minimal level of springiness.

If you opt for a bed frame they usually have the slatted support for the mattress; consider whether you want under bed storage before you buy the new low level styles as bed frames come in a variety of styles.

The Evolution of Beautiful Vintage Style Rooms

I'll take one of this....uhhh....maybe a couple of those and one of that.

This is the way many people approach the task of decorating a room and a task is one thing it shouldn't be. I like to think of it as a never-ending story. My rooms are never finished. They are constantly evolving.

If you don't have a passion for decorating and aren't that particular about how your home looks, then a bed-in-a-bag might work just great for you. However, if you want your rooms to be an expression of what you love and a statement as to how you live your life, then you must think outside the box and have a clear understanding of how much of a virtue patience really is.

The best part of all is that in the long run, you will probably spend less money than those bed-in-a-bag folks. Rooms that evolve over time are filled with the things you really love...things that you picked out at different places, at different times. Those are the things you tend to hang on to, and the things that often become family heirlooms.

Decide what you like and begin your journey one piece at a time. And for heaven's sake, resist the urge to make things match. Vintage style, cottage chic and shabby decorating is very unstructured and rarely do things match, unless you happen to have a set of something.

One of my most favorite things is to mix and match bed linens. I am always on the hunt for flat sheets with roses or other cottage-y looking florals and prints to mix with solid fitted sheets. I also have an abundance of vintage pillowcases with either crocheted edges, embroidery or in floral prints. They look absolutely lovely all mixed together with some handmade throw pillows. Vintage linens are a staple in vintage decorating, so hit your local thrift shops and tag sales and start looking for some. You'll be amazed at what you find.

Just take your time building a room a few pieces at a time and your personal picks will evolve into something truly lovely!

Interior Decorating Tips- Redo Your Bedroom Quick, Easy, Cheap

Comforters & duvets are versatile and functional ways to decorate your bed with a sense of fashion. With the variety of fabrics available for these bedding covers, and the ease in which you can change them, sets of duvet and comforter covers are one of the quickest, most fabulous, and most low-priced ways to change the look of your bedroom.

What's the difference between a comforter and a duvet?

Comforter – A quilted and filled blanket that you are able to wash. Synthetic fibers are commonly used for filling. There are an endless number of different colors and textures that they are made from.

Duvet – A dry-clean only quilted and filled blanket. Typically stuffed with down feathers. They are generally unembellished and come in white or off-white.

When shopping for a Duvet, examine the amount of fill. FILL is the cubic inches per ounce of down. Warmer duvets have a higher fill number. Also higher numbers tend to be better quality in general.

Most fill numbers are in the 500-550 range. Higher quality is between 600-700. And very high (and very expensive) fill numbers are over 700.

Down comforters are also identified by the region and time of year they were manufactured for. "summer" or "southern" weight duvets are the lightest type. A queen size summer duvet is about 26 ounces. Moving up to the "mountain" or "winter" weights, you would expect a queen size to come in at around 54 ounces.

The casing of the duvet, call the ticking, should be lightweight. The shell should also be made of down-proof fabric.

How a duvet is stiched is very important. The down inside of a duvet needs to be able to puff up (loft). Baffles and channels are the most common type of stitching. These help to distribute the down evenly throughout the comforter. Without properly stitched baffels, all of the down will have a tendency to bunch up at the bottom of the duvet. This can be fixed by shaking the comforter to redistribute them again. But with properly baffled stitching, you shouldn't have to do this as often.

Duvets are made to be covered by a removable case, kind of like a huge pillow case. This helps to protect the duvet and keep it clean. Because you are allowed to wash comforters, you don’t need to use a cover with them. However, that doesn’t mean that you can’t use a duvet cover for your comforter.

The wonderful thing about comforter covers is that no matter how ancient or unattractive a comforter may be, dressing it up can give it a new life and a new purpose. If you live in a typical household have several old blankets, pillows, and comforters hidden away in the attic or under beds. Bring them out of the closet and make them useful again by throwing a comforter cover on and let them give your bedroom a makeover.

Comforter coverings are a easyway to change the mood of your bedroom without having to repaint or refurnish. Your bed is typically the main focus of your bedroom because it takes up such a large portion of the room. Because of its relatively large scale, it automatically draws the eye to it. No matter what else you have as far as decorating elements, your bed, or more specifically your comforter, is what will specify the style of your room.

5 Things to Remember When Decorating Your Cleveland Loft Apartment

To some life in the big city goes hand in hand with small over priced apartment living. To the young professionals of Cleveland Ohio big city living goes hand in hand with spacious, historic, renovated loft apartments.

Cleveland loft living is the preferred accommodations of the modern, young, up and coming professional. The loft apartment provides an affordable living space at the beginning of ones career. Large open living rooms, twenty foot high ceilings, and oversized windows are just a few of the benefits of choosing a loft apartment. Loft living also comes with some bad connotations. I have five tips for you to remember when choosing and decorating your Cleveland loft.

  1. Keep it Classy and warm Most downtown lofts will be either hard wood or concrete floors. The hard wood or concrete floors will more than likely be the original floor that was laid when the building was built. It will be beautiful, it will be classy, it will be cold! When you move into your loft you will need to invest in many area rugs. This will save on your heating bill and keep your feet warm.
  2. This little light of mine Another beautiful feature that comes along with loft living are amazing, 20 foot high wood beam ceilings. This is a very common feature among factories and warehouses from the 1920's, the same buildings that have since been renovated into loft apartments. This feature is the standard at the Bridgeview, East Fourth street neighborhood, The Bradley building, and The Tower Press Apartments. The only problem with these gorgeous ceilings is they are not equipped with any over head lighting. This seems like an easy fix; buy a light for every room. It's more like three lights for every room. Trying to light a large open room with 20 foot ceilings is very difficult. A good rule of thumb is one light for every ten square feet. Remember to be green and let sunlight in through your windows as much as possible.
  3. Sell all the clothes you haven't worn in a year The one feature that is a huge negative of loft living is the amount of storage space. Most Cleveland lofts have been renovated to have a decent size bedroom closet. However that closet may be your only area for storage in the whole apartment. There are some easy design elements that can help you make your loft more storage friendly. Raise your bed higher of the ground with bed lifts, maximize space in your closet using things such as a shoe wheel, canvas organizers, and bins. You can also put up hanging metal racks in the kitchen to maximize counter space.
  4. Check out that view Why do you want to move into a loft apartment in Cleveland Ohio? Because you want to be downtown! Remember that when you are arranging your furniture, use the city as your backdrop. Your view of the city is a piece of ever changing art work in your apartment, use it to your full advantage. Please do not put your couch in front of your windows. Arrange the furniture in your apartment so you get the best possible view of the city every time you sit down.
  5. Bricks and concrete are for inside too Decorating a loft is so easy! You already have exposed brick walls, concrete or hard wood floors, 20 foot high ceilings, and over sized windows that look over downtown Cleveland. Keep your decorating simple and clean. Use metal or steel accent furniture in the living room and bedroom, buy some plants and keep them near the windows for sunlight, and use raw material and industrial looking décor. Ikea is a great place to look for things like this.

Loft living is meant to be an open space that you can design into anything you want. There are not walls, floor plans or constrains in a loft. Good luck finding and decorating your Cleveland loft!

Bedroom Design Ideas For A Small Space

You can use your curtains to make the windows appear higher and larger. Do this by hanging your curtain rods a foot to sixteen inches above the window. Be sure to use light, flowing fabric to get a look that is soft and romantic. If you use dark, heavy drapes, it will make it seem as if the room is closing in on you, causing your space to appear smaller.

When you are picking a paint color, look for one that will reflect the light and look nice in your small space. When we were painting our bedroom in a small townhouse, we chose Benjamin Moore's Algonquin Trail (#1055). For reds, blues, and greens, this is a great choice. It makes a nice backdrop for lots of different styles, and it doesn't make the room appear dark.

If your room is small and boxy, set your furniture at angles or place it in alcoves to add points of interest. When you select a bed frame, be sure that it is roomy underneath. This will give you some extra storage space. To achieve terrific ambient lighting, you will want to add some lamps. Be sure, in the interest of space, that all of your side tables include some storage capabilities.

Get a nice, large, floor mirror and mount it on the wall. This will give you the appearance of spaciousness. Beside the mirror, place a tall lamp. This will give more light and the illusion of open space. By doing this, you will make your room seem to be larger, but you won't have to add extra furniture to get this effect.

Take advantage of your beautiful hardwood floors by enhancing them with a pretty rug. This will make even your floor a point of interest. Set the rug at an angle with the furnishings.

The addition of wall shelves will create storage. Set your books and knick-knacks up in an interesting way on the shelves. By doing this, your bookshelves will be decorative rather than merely functional. Cut down on clutter by making the most of your closet space. Add shelves and use baskets to maximize its storage capacity.

If you use these tips, your bedroom will be pleasant and inviting. You will find yourself looking forward to the time you spend there each night.

The outcome will all depend on your creative planning. Here are some landscaping design ideas, which can help you with your landscaping project.

Water features:

One of the most popular landscaping design ideas is adding water features such as a mini waterfall, fish pond or a fountain. These landscaping structures can be very appealing and relaxing.

Additionally, you can add beauty to your landscaping with a swimming pool. You have the option to install either an in-ground or above-ground pool, which is perfect during the summer season. This will bring fun to the entire family and friends during house parties. In addition, outdoor spas and hot tubs are also becoming popular. They can be very functional during the winter season.

Play areas for kids:

Kids’ play areas are also common landscaping design ideas, nowadays. You can add a mini playground using swings, a seesaw, monkey bars and a sandbox.

Vegetable and fruit plot:

Growing vegetables and fruits in your home is a good idea towards a healthy life. Aside from helping you maintain a healthy diet, maintaining a garden will give you some exercise, too. A vegetable or herb garden can also be very relaxing and adds appeal to your home.

Bird feeding place:

Putting a bit of wildlife to your landscape can be fun for the whole family. A bird feeding station can be placed near your patio so you can enjoy watching the birds while they feed.

Driveways and parking areas:

Another great idea for your landscape design is use driveway pavers, which are very useful especially if you have an outdoor parking lot. Installing pavers ensures that your driveway is not slippery when raining. All that you have to do is to make sure that the driveway is wide enough and visible when inside the vehicle.

The landscaping design ideas discussed above are just some that you can use for improving your home or property. To learn more about adding or installing them in your landscape, it is best to ask assistance from a landscape architect or from someone who has knowledge and experience in landscaping.

Natural Pools: A Green Oasis

Summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn't mean it's too late to think about a trend that's merging the green and the wet: natural pools. A natural pool is a man-made swimming pool that utilizes natural means of cleaning itself. Instead of utilizing chemicals, these pools are carefully designed around plants that act as filtration systems. Usually, a deeper swimming area is surrounded by a larger, shallow area planted with plenty of water-loving plants. This water-garden area is called a regeneration zone, and a pump directs water from the swimming area through the garden zone to be filtered and cleaned by both the plants and a bed of gravel. The exact ratio of plants to size of pool and number of swimmers has been calculated by the professionals, allowing people to have completely chemical free yet safe swimming pools, right in their own back yards.

The concept is the same as a lake. There are enough natural filters in place that the average lake, if not overwhelmed by a pollution source, is perfectly safe for multiple people to swim in it on a regular basis. Plants are very affective at absorbing organic matter, neutralizing toxins and releasing oxygen into the water, giving the owners of these natural pools mini-sanctuaries in the privacy of their own backyards.

One factor to consider about a natural pool, called a swimming pond in Europe, is that it will need a larger footprint than the space you actually want for swimming. So these are most suited to larger yards. Typically, about half of the total area is the deeper swimming area and half is the water-garden area.

You will know if a natural pool is functioning properly because the water will be clear and luscious looking. Algae growth can occur, and is most common during the first year after the pool is developed. Once the plants grow and develop larger root systems, they will starve the algae and the water will clear up. With the right balance of plants, and a functioning pump to circulate the water, there should be minimal to no algae growth, just crystal clear, pure water and that sweet smell of lake-water.

Natural pools have been gaining popularity in Europe over the past twenty years or so, but there are only a few companies building them in the United States. They are so different looking compared to what people expect a pool to be, but the concept is taking off. It is no surprise that natural pools should become popular, as the "green" trend moves people away from things like chemicals and towards something like this that actually creates an ecosystem. Imagine attracting butterflies to your backyard swimming hole.

However one of the main obstacles to a natural swimming pool is zoning regulations. You will need a building permit to create one, and you might run into challenges from engineers and city officials who are unfamiliar with the concept. But referring them to the research done by the Kansas-based Total Habitat or California's Expanding Horizons will help.

Tarps As Cheap and Effective Covers

Tarps are a remarkably inexpensive way to cover anything and everything you want to cover from the elements like rain and snow, pollutants, pollen, dust, or over spray. They are flexible, cheap, and effective for a wide variety of uses in and outside of the home, farm, or business. They also have many uses related to recreation and novelty uses.

Probably the most common use of tarps is as a cover for large items stored outdoors such as cars and trucks where there is inadequate garage space to store them, cars and trucks being renovated or saved for that "someday" renovation project, boats and canoes, campers, ATVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles, and trailers. Whether you choose an inexpensive high-density polyethylene or a heavy-duty or canvas tarp, tarps are strong, tear-resistant, light weight and easy to handle and drape, and completely waterproof. Utilizing the sturdy grommets on the corners, you can either tie the tarp down with stakes or simply weight down the edges with heavy objects like concrete blocks to keep them from blowing off in the wind.

Tarps also make fine covers for piles of firewood that are outdoors drying out keeping rain and snow from saturating them but still letting air circulate around the logs as they dry.

When you're working on any kind of outdoor project and inclement weather threatens or stops you in your tracks, tarps are a fast, easy way to protect your project until the weather clears. This might be a roofing job, addition to a house, or other large construction project you opted to do outdoors for maximum flexibility. Whatever it is, tarps are a godsend when storm clouds start rolling in unexpectedly.

While you don't often think of it as a cover, multiple tarps are also very useful to have along on camping trips. It's a good idea to stretch a tarp over tents and anchor them with stakes, because most tarps are more weather resistant than tent fabric. Especially if water ends up sitting on the roof of the tent, tent fabric inevitably leaks. A tarp stretched out and tied to tree limbs in the forest also makes a handy canopy to protect gear and campers from sun and rain showers while enjoying time outdoors or eating at a picnic table, so they do in essence become durable covers for all practical purposes.

When hauling loads in an open truck bed, tarps are effective covers to protect items from blowing out or getting wet during a rain shower or thunderstorm and are especially helpful for long trips. So the next time you're helping your friends move into a new house or apartment, be sure to throw a few tarps into the truck along

Art Work Guidelines And Feng Shui

A lot has already be said about art work and how it effects the Feng Shui and Qi of you home. These guidelines have been used for many many years, but at times, you may not realize that some of your own art is bringing you not the right kind of energy into your home that you actually want, and hence into your life.

To ensure all is well and that you are creating the right kind of Qi (chi) in your home with certain artwork, I have created a short list of guidelines to follow which can help you achieve the growth and happiness Qi you wish to have in your home.

Here are some simple guidelines you can follow when you want to enhance good Qi to enter and be welcoming in your home, bringing you happiness, health, opportunities, good news and wealth.

  1. Have a family photo of everyone together placed predominately in your home, make sure everyone looks happy in the photo.
  2. For single women who seek more love in their life, make sure your art work does not show a lone woman in your art work. I recently removed a beautiful picture from my bedroom since it was a single woman, albeit a gorgeous print of a European Princess, it is not auspicious to have this in my bedroom, as since I am not married, - yet. The same goes for single men, try not to have lone figures of men. With this sort of art, you are sending out a sign to stay single. So photos of couples happily together is what you should seek to have hanging in your home.
  3. If there is a photo, picture, painting in your home that you do not like, say it reminds you of your least favorite uncle, remove it. You will be amazed at how quickly removing said picture makes you feel better, you no longer have to look at the thing that brings you to have negative thoughts.
  4. Any photos that seem to show negativity - I recently also removed antique prints from a children's story "The Pied Piper" And though they were incredible hand-painted illustrations from a well-known artist Kate Greenaway, since the prints showed fear on the women's faces as they ran from the mice, I knew it wasn't auspicious to have in my home. I have since sold them on E-bay for a good sum. Who knew?!
  5. Don't keep family photos placed faced down in storage as you are 'symbolically' pushing down their energy by doing this.
  6. Nor is it good practice to keep photos and pictures under your bed, for the same pushing and blocking of their energy by keeping the photos there.
  7. With the age of the digital camera, we now have so many photos, many more than we can ever actually use. Good practice is to remove any unflattering photos of yourself and of others immediately. Doing this once a week in the many folders in your computer, will ensure, that you end up with only beautiful and happy looking photos of your friends, family and self. This in turns help bring only happiness to you and your family and friends.
  8. Keep a happy looking photo of yourself on your alter, dresser and one of your mate should be placed here as well. Also include a photo of the two of you together very happy in love. This will also help keep the two of you together, and also helps keep happy energy entering into your relationship.
  9. Have a picture of many birds - the more the merrier, especially of a phoenix bird is extremely auspicious. Have this hanging in your living room, bedroom or when you enter your home is excellent to help bring into your home many good opportunities and always good news.
  10. A picture of mountains, with moving water is also extremely good to have behind you as you sit at your desk. It is said you can also have these sort of picture placed anywhere in your home, as the moving water is a symbol of wealth growth, and the mountains reflect stability and support from both coworkers, family and even bosses when used in the office.

Art is an excellent way to help create the symbols and images needed to help bring in good Qi to you, your family and your home. Art in particular has been used in Feng Shui practices for centuries to help the energy of a home be improved, and the subject matter in particularly, can be used to further enhance a certain corner or wall to bring in more happiness and wealth into your life.

And though there are so many symbols and interesting images once can use to enhance the Qi in the home, starting with these simple guidelines listed above, will be a good start in ensuring the current art work in your home reflects the positive Qi (chi) you want in your home.

Useful Home Improvement Suggestions

Before remodeling or renovating a home, take time to go through all the useful home improvement tips suggested by various online sites. Look for money savers and do not be in a hurry to rush through the jobs. Browse through books, catalogues at stores, and consult with technical people before employing anyone. Make sure you have an estimate of your plan and requirements and then hire a professional architect or designer who can assist you with your ideas.

Source out suppliers and supplies from manufacturing outlets

A useful home improvement suggestion offered is to buy furniture from manufacturing outlets directly rather than from departmental stores as this works out far cheaper generally. If you are planning to do the job yourself, you can order the components from a hardware shop or through a catalog. Rent out sanders instead of buying them to refinish your wooden floors. Save on kitchen cabinets if you want a face look by fixing new cabinet doors on old cabinet frames. You achieve a new look and can change the design effectively.

Take on do-it-yourself projects and save money

Mix and match old with the new by making your own bedspreads and swags or simple window curtains. Materials purchased at linen stores or thrift stores have all year round bargain counters. Stick to simple window treatments. Use bright colors and pretty designs to make the rooms come alive. Use dividers to carve out a new room if you want a change. Use mirrors strategically to create a feeling of space. Successfully use glass blocks to separate one area from another without detracting the light factor. Use fluorescent lighting strips to illuminate the area that needs highlighting.

Select the right paints.

Ceilings reflect surface defects easily, so make sure to use flat finishes on ceilings. Use primers and sealers as per instructions found on the containers. Avoid bargain basement sales, which generally sell over thinned paints. Buy paints from a reputed store. Use latex for walls and ceilings in bedrooms, living rooms and formal dining rooms. Latex gives you the flexibility of understanding the effect of a color or faux finish in a room. This is a useful home improvement suggestion as durable paint is more expensive and consumption is less when used over latex paint for the final touch. Use Oil-based paints and alkyds in bathrooms and kitchens where there is more wear and tear with frequent handling. Use glossier finishes where there is heavy traffic like kitchens, bathrooms, handrails stairway etc.

The Hands of Time - Wall Clocks

The first time pieces started approximately 6,000 years ago for religious rituals. These devises were often candles and lamps. Farmers used sections of time for planting, growing and harvesting. It was not necessary to know the exact time.

The next instrument was Sundials from Egypt which marked the daily progress of the suns movement across the sky. This method was known to be accurate and useful. You can still purchase clocks that look like sundials today. These were made of brass and only the rich could afford them. Briton transformed the brass dials with painted ones. These were inexpensive and clocks started being used for decoration as well as keeping time.

The first antique wall clocks were called lanterns. They were made out of brass, very heavy and were hung on walls. The concept of personal clocks was introduced in the 17th century.

All clocks have inner workings that would surprise and amaze you. We usually just take it for granted. There are analog clocks which have a face and hands and battery operated and there are digital clocks which are usually powered by an electric current with number displays.

Clocks keep cultures and societies united and functioning. Most western cultures value punctuality especially in the business community. There is a saying, "Time is money!"

Most clocks are mass produced now using cheaper materials such as plastic and metals. Most Americans find that clocks are cheaper then most paintings to help fill their empty walls. They also are a status symbol and bring elegance and character to one's surroundings.

Some types of clocks, but not limited to are: Antique, Wall, Contemporary, Nautical, Atomic, Decorative, Traditional, Mantel, Grandfather, Cuckoo, Kitchen, Alarm, and others. There are two types of movement. They are mechanical and quartz battery operated. Some mechanical clocks produce a chiming sound. Clocks are also powered by solar energy, winding mechanism, and batteries.

Clocks may cover centuries but always give off visual pleasure. Without clocks life would be chaotic. Most humans wear them on their wrists, keep them next to their bed, and display them in almost every room of the house. Although often, they may never pay much thought to their clocks and their function.

Here is a list of a few popular clock brands that are well known for their skilled craftsmanship and supreme quality. Howard Miller Company, Bulova, Geochron , Ridgeway Clock Company and Seth Thomas Clocks.

The next time you look at any type of clock, take a minute and think of what your life would be like if this instrument did not exist.
